OH BOLLOCKS... WHAT A DAY!!
I went for a blast last Thursday on the Kat, & it turned out to be a right hum dinger day.
I was 2 miles from home & giving it a bit on the local bypass, when the Kat suddenly revved high, hit the rev limiter & lost drive. At first I thought the Kat had thrown the chain.
Upon coasting to halt the chain was still there. The engine still sounded sweet. I put it back in gear & let the clutch out.. no drive. The Kat had sheared the sprocket off at the weld on the outrigger boss. So the boss was just turning, & not driving the sprocket, which was still held in place by the outrigger bearing cover. ( made me wonder how nasty it could have been, if there hadn't been a support there, to hold the sprocket in place.
).
Anyway, I phoned the AA to pick me up, only to be told my membership had just lapsed. WTF!!!...
... I told them I'd got the letter that morning, telling me they were going to take the money out by direct debit ,same as every year ive been in. Told them I'd been in 22 yrs & was keeping my membership rolling, & didn't want it to lapse. I got no joy, a load of waffle, & was told I had to stump up the fee now, before they would recover the Kat...... Ok no prob.
After waiting an hour, the AA recovery vehicle turned up.
Then upon shoving the Kat up onto the trailer, the loading ramp flicks up & hits the billet alloy deep sump bell, puncturing it, thus dumping 4ltr's of oil, straight out onto the road. FOR F**CKS SAKE !!!. What else can go wrong!!!.... Luckily nothing.. that was my 3, all in the space of 2 hrs. PHEW..!!!
Luckily the AA said they will pay for the damage caused to the Kat.....HA HA HAAARRRR!!!
But i need to knock up a new alloy deep sump bell now, & that will take time & effort, So I've had to fit a standard sump for the time being.

On the plus side - your Kat is strong enough to crack the weld on the sprocket.

Always thought the weld looked a little too thin & neat (tig). Shouldn't have any more probs now.. touch wood.
Done it with the mig.
Going to have a new sump knocked up at work I think.,.. just need a piece of billet 13cm wide by 20cm long, might try to get to next Newark if poss.
