kiwi to the 8's
Re: kiwi to the 8's
For the class I run in we are unable to run turbos which really isn't a problem as I have no experience with them and much more interested in seeing what sort of performance I can get out of the EFE running carbs with good porting and a big block

Been a bit disheartened with the results to date, as all I seam to have done is make the bike slower
At the last meeting bit was running low 13's in the two runs I made, the dyna ignition was missing like a bastard above about 6500rpm - didn't have the data logger going as I couldn't find the disc to load on to my new lap top, the Wago o2 hadn't arrived thanks to New Zealand customs and after two runs it rained so the day was called off
But on a positive note using the 2 step to get off the line the 60ft time had improve despite the miss
So I put the bike up on the bike lift and left it there untouched for a couple of weeks while I contemplated the problems over a few cold ones.
It seams that the gel battery i run with the total loss ignition was running out of power to run the dyna 4000 at higher revs, and that it required at least 13.2 volts all the time
On review some of last years data sets the voltage even with a fully charged battery never got over 12.8 volts so after to chatting to a friend in the states it was found that I needed to be running a lithium iron battery, now finding on of those here at a sensible price in New Zealand proved problematic until my wife suggested using batteries like in my model Helicopters, problem solved, one lithium polymer battery at 14.4 volt purchased, so now with luck the ignition will not miss up in the top rev range.
Plus the data logger disc has been found from where i put it away safely when moving house and the Wago has arrived so my enthusiasm has returned to get it all ready for the meeting on the 1st of March
Photos to follow over the next few days

I would keep looking for a problem just in case. My experience of total loss on a dragbike is the ignition should run fine even with low 11volts. My logger records 11.2 sometimes during a run and the battery is powering 2 pumps, nitrous controller and solenoids. And it runs flawlessly.

Question for bikephil are you running a dyna 4000 ?
All my problems seam to start after fitting that so now at the point of removing it and putting the standard ignition back on
Spent most of today out working on the race bike and couldn't get the data logger to logger rpm signal from the dyna and with out it picking up rpm signals the shift light will not work but at least the Wago O2 sensor is in place and running so some good can out of the day

No, i use an MSD MC4
The O2 is a real pain on total loss battery, takes aaaages to heat up the sensor. I have to switch it on in the pairing lanes else it'll not be warmed up before i go into stage. Or rather thats how it was with the Innovate wideband. I've fitted a racepak one now but not tried it yet.

Well that was a most successful day in the shed - sorted out air shifter and its controller after I thought i had fried it , standard ignition and carbs back on the bike plus the Wego is now fitted and talking to the data logger so now have even better info for tuning
Got to play with my new motion pro carb sys tool - carbs where almost spot on and didn't need to be changed at all

Wiring still needs to be tided up but every thing working

New work bench

Air shifter ram mounted

O2 Sensor mounted

And there's racing on Sunday , so far the weather forecast is good and i,m not working

Weather forecast for tomorrow looking grand for the final race meeting of the year - 22 deg C with little or no wind , bikes all sorted just need to put body work back on after the final checks , sort out the trailer and load the car with the tools i need. Have to say after all the disappointments of the season so far will just be pleased to do a few passes before stripping the old girl down for the winter rebuild
New sleeves ordered from the man to fit the 1327 pistons in to, now just need to get the head milled 60 thou, sort out a lengthened swing arm and the fitting the 6" wide 17 inch rim , make it even lower and reduce its weight more ...................... the list just goes on and on
