Hello ACS people
Hello boys and girls,
My name is Paul, and I'm building an 1168 Katana to race in the 4 hour Endurance at Spa Bikers Classic next year.
I hadn't much of a clue about anything air-cooled before I went to Spa this year, but now I've started the project, I'm learning fast!
I've got most of the parts sorted, but always have eyes and ears open for stuff that might help, be that advice, parts or just support to keep going when the dark days of winter are upon us.
I'll post bits and bobs up in the right sections when things happen, but for now, just to say Hi!
cheers!
Paul B.

Hello Paul welcome aboard. I had a read on your ideas in the mag and it looks like a great project. 94hp seems good from a 30yr motor. The wiseco 1170 kit works great in these old girls got one in mine and the wifes kats. Be awesome to see what its pumping out when race prepped. I guess 150hp should be achievable. Much more than that and you may need to go straight cut. Be great to see this come together in the project section.
Remember pics need to be below 128kb.
I'm interested in SPA and may attempt to fly the acs flag there. What month is it held?

Funny you should mention the straight cut - I've been musing on that conundrum all day!
I finally arrived at the notion I'll stick to the standard helicals for this stage of the build (which, in the plan at least, will see the bike raced at Spa)
The figure of 150bhp was also the number Gary (Grumpy!) used as the sensible threshold for straight cuts. For this reason I have never wished a bike to be down on power like I do this one! -
Although I'm a novice at GSX's I have plenty of racebike and dyno experience on later bikes, and my thumb-in-the-air-dyno-meter is telling me to expect between 130 and 140bhp (on the same dyno that we got 94 in the article - MSG Racing in Aylesbury)
I hope that'll work well enough with the helical gears until I can find some that aren't going to set me back a grand or more!
Thanks for letting me in by the way, and good to be here!
cheers

Hi Paul how you doing got an idea i want to throw your way. I just stripped my gsx1100sz engine and turns out the top rings are quite worn. But the barrels are fine. I know the motor your tuning made ok power on the dyno. Rather than bore your barrels. How about i give you a few quid and my good barrels and you give me your barrels pistons etc?
