Ive both,Ive an ACDC TIG set up and a big-ish MIG set up.
Im crap on TIG but ok with MIG,so after p*ss farting around and wasting time,I stuck some stainless wire in the mig. If you intend to dress all the welds back,MIG is great.
Im lucky in that Ive a couple of good mates who are great TIG welders,so can pester them for help/advice. But when it comes down to it,I really just need to practise, practise and practise.
With the MIG welding,if your dressing off the welds, they dont need to be tidy.
Bikemad, yes Im pleased Ive decided to press on with the turbo build too. It makes more sense than selling and having regrets.

On the pipe welding thing,I buy my pre-made stainless steel bends from my local pipe centre (national company)for about a fiver a piece. They arent expensive when you do some maths and work out whats needed. I did an admittedly crappy log type exhaust manifold for a turbo for £20! (for a suzuki blandit)(crappy because it was a mess where Id been trying to grind the welds down, and looked a mess!,then I discovered the KLS discs).

Im busy today for what seems like the first time in ages working on making some hubs for an 8x18 wheel (240 tyre),and actually enjoying myself.
I think working on other peoples "stuff" sounds like a good idea at the time, but i need a break from it. Until Im skint again.

Here I go again!
I had been planning out a 240 back ended EFE(for my number 2 efe,the 1260cc one),but today I bought an 11x17 Taylormade 3 piece split rim and another 300 section avon tyre (I already have a 10x17 and a 300 tyre for another project). Id been drawing up full size plans for a new swingarm (for a 240 tyre with an 8x18 wheel)but now,Im in turmoil. A while back somebody built a 330 back ended white efe, which made the centre pages of 100%biker,with great workmanship, but it was (sorry)hideous to look at. I spotted a 330 tyred EFE for sale on an american site, and again, horrible. Id love to do a "cartoon" bike, but so it looks OK,and still recognisable as a GSX? . Hmm..I need to think this out a bit.
My thoughts are long swingarm, ultra short pillion seat, highish stance with plenty of air underneath the seat subframe,so the wheel would be very noticable....one off crazy spyder style drag exhaust, fat wide billet yokes....
I think I need some medication...

Im off to the metalsupermarket this week to buy some more metal.
Ive been thru a spell of weeks and weeks of bad health, but Im feeling back on form as I type. The only problem today is the workshop is in the high 30's.
Too hot to do anything.
