I was running a sidewinder pipe Stockcar with heavier oil in the forks. No problem what so ever. I wouldnt do it with a normal 4-1 pipe though.
I had been thinking about this project,and an article in a british magazine came to mind about somebody who had built a 160hp yam fj12 with a lot of weight taken off it. If I can find the magazine i can maybe post up what he has done to reduce the weight,and it may give you some ideas?? Im sure he had lost over 100 pounds? It wasnt by fitting expensive carbon fibre etc,it was chopping bits off that were not needed.

That would be great , may give me a few ideas for the winter rebuild that I'm about to start , was going to go to the easter racing in Nelson but have simply run out of time to get every thing ready - bike needed to have a tec inspection to race up there and the local man who does those is away on holiday ..........
Will race in Christchurch on the 14th april then will strip the bike down to every last nut and bolt , fit the 17" wheels and lengthen the swing arm get it painted and build a motor thats ? 1327 1428 may be 1500 cc , 1327 is the way i will probably go to start with cause i can get a standard efe block sleeved with out having to buy a big block , then when I'm finished with it it will go on the efe road bike project the wife suggested

i remember that one.... it was in Practical Sportsbikes i think. He drilled everything to save weight.

You can see how he lost weight on the bike to make it very competitive.
I have to admit Im a fan of the FJ engine for its torque,but,here in the UK,the FJ12 is considered an oldmans bike,so we dont see many modified. Phil (the racer of the fj in the link)has his bike making 160 hp+,which must feel great. Im going down a far easier route with one of my FJ's to get some serious HP. Im going when funds allow to see the UK's fave turbo bike builder Dave Dunlop,to have him build me a blow thru turbo kit. Plain black paint,panniers for the nitrous bottle...a proper street sleeper.

But to get back to your Suzuki (
),most if not all the weight saving measures carried out on the Yam will work fine to get some pounds off the bike.
My step brother rides a GSXR1000 and fairly recently had a very expensive titanium after market exhaust fitted,which cost more money than the amount Ive ever spent on a bike. Anyway,"its great isnt it?" "Its as light as a kittens fart..." as he munched away on a big fat bacon sandwich followed by a mars bar...
If he had spent a month on a diet,he would have lost more weight than the the exhaust change to his bike.
I dont know what sort of shape your in,but if you need to lose a pound or two cut down on the calories and save the weight carried on the bike!
Every little adds up!
Im off to the pub to have a nice steak and chips now,washed down with a cold pint of lager.

Lol i that the point about losing a kg's but i've be 75kg's for the years (i'm 5'8") and when i did drop my weight down to 68/69kg to race at the nationals years ago i felt like shit , tired ,weak so not going to go back there the bike can lose the weight
That web site about the FJ12 is really interesting , not sure i would drill the bottom frame rails but the weight difference between wheels is something i was already looking at but hadn't got around to sorting out , when i get a bit of time will have a good read of it all

So its been a very long time between post - just been a full on year with very little time for doing anything on the bike but that didnt stop me from buying parts as they turned up on eBay and as founds allowed

Air shifter parts to be fitted

38mm lectrons for bit more air

Boys in there new home- a 10mtr by 7mtr shed on our new property just for the the bikes, no more running out of room to store things as the house also has a triple car garage attached to it

Start of fitting the air shifter - wiring never been one of my strong points but with time getting it sorted

Dyna 4000 fitted and running engine sounds sooooo much sharper with it, now to work out setting up the two step and wiring in the air shifter control for the engine kill

First meeting I can attend due to work commitments is on the 26th January so all going well should have a new motor together with a ported ET head, the 38mm Lectrons, welded crank, heavy duty clutch and bored to 1166cc . Head still needs to have 60 thou milled off it, valves need polishing and fitting etc etc, running EFE cams but still waiting on some parts to arrive from Schnitz racing so will see. If not that meeting then there is another on the 9th Feb it will be ready for - that motor should run mid to low tens
If I'm still running the current standard motor that's getting tired at the 26th meeting then low 11's, may be high tens - really depends on the day

Just looked back when you brought it, you ran 11.6 secs with mild mods. Wonder what it has cost to get you down to low tens. Are you not into turbos?
