How much paint do you need for an old school bike. As ive had my tank stripped to bare metal will I have to order etch primer and then filling primer then base, then clear.
See getting carried away already

To save money id buy a spray can of etch primer, rather than the 1litre + activator I use myself. Is then suggest a 1 litre tin of high build 2 k primer with a half litre of fast hardener activator. The activator will come into use for the clear coats too. For the red on my red/black paint (same as sight mascot bike) I bought a quarter of a litre of i think Mazda red,but already have black basecoat in stock,as its a regular thing to use. For your bike id go with half a litre of white,to spray the full set of panels. You'll have stuff left over, but it probably will be a similar cost to an aerosol from the likes of Halfrauds. Gallon of thinners. This can be used for thinning paint and for cleaning guns. The blue,id go for a quarter of a litre, the clearcoat comes in litre cans.
You mentioned you fancy the blue grape colour. Deal with specialist paints direct, and they will do 250ML quantities. Thats all I buy in from them. I dont use their thinners etc,as its overpriced compared to my usual paint shop.
Other things you'll need are a selection of wet n dry paper, some paint strainers, tack clothes if your felling posh,I use panel wipe, but you can do the job without, kitchen paper towels and some mixing cups. I like the clear marked plastic ones.
For small paint jobs I sometimes (
from proper painters)use plastic "shot glasses" from the pound shop.
If you can hang fire until I start a new paint job,I'll happily post a load of bits and pieces.
Feel free to shout out questions at any stage and I'll do my best to answer.
Im no expert though!
And Im not presently looking to do any paint job's for anybody else!!
And buy a new clean bucket too,and dont use it for anything else!

Thats good news then.
On the subject of compressors,i dragged mine out today to do some blasting. The stitching in the gauntlets split,so as i blasted I had plumes of dust coming out where my arm was. So that was abandoned for today. Im going to order some new blast media and gloves tomorrow.
I had been blasting the rear wheel that came from my original EFE to use,as it will save having to machine hubs etc for the split rim. for the time being at least. Its just a 5.5 inch Kawasaki zx9r wheel, but I know it used to fit,so should still do so.
With it being a bank holiday,my usual "helpers and tea drinkers" arent here, when I really could use a hand to lift some heavy stuff about.
Ive a false hip and prolapsed discs in my back so need to be fairly careful what I lift. Bummer!
I had been wanting to get the kawasaki usd front end taken out from the front of my fj12 (it was put in when I was rebuilding the busa front end for it,to allow me to move it),and put it in the gsx frame. It could be described as frustrating to say the least when you cant lift heavy things any more!

I made some spacer's to keep the back end together, for moving the bike around. The swingarm pivot has a 13mm difference to the frame gap? I cant think why? Not to worry though,as I knocked up 2 spacers as needed and fitted them to take up the slack. Ive gone back to a 3 spoke wheel too.
This bike building malarkey is fun. One minute I was blasting a kawasaki wheel, and the next thinking why not fit the rear wheel out of the donor GSXR?
Im thinking that fitting the GSXR donor wheel may be a good option? It has the right sized pitch sprocket and is complete with tyre and a disc.
Also,if people fit these into EFE swingarms,I know that it will fit with space of the rear of my long swingarm with no problem. Just some new spacers.
Easy.

Plastic welded back on. i then noticed a small hair line crack along the bottom section, that all efe panels seem to suffer from!
A mate of mine has done a shortened seat on a zed,and has "cobbled" a seat base together. He's getting the metal base plastic formed,to create a nice new fresh base for upholstery. I might have a word with the plastic people to ask if they can do new side panels?
