My EFE make over.
Re: My EFE make over.
Thats the way to do it dixie, long and low just how a EFE should look, will you be milling the split rim center or keep it as a solid disc.

if I go with the split rim,im keeping it solid. Who ever made the rim has used to flat pates to make the centre. it came off a dragbike,so its strong, but I wouldnt fancy cutting into it. If I could find a piece of alloy the right size, then Id consider machining a new centre. But in all honesty,im lazy! Making the hubs will probably be a job enough for the wheel.
Im still at the just look at it stage to see if it looks right?
I really fancied a set of white wheels to copy the Steve Burns bike?
I should really stick with a game plan and not deviate!
Im already mentally working on my next project.

As long as its only mentally working on the next project, you've more than enough projects on the go lol. I'd stick with the split rim, its a proper drag school look aswell as looking cool.

Thanks for the comment Nick.
Im undecided. My mate has just been to buy a bike from me,and he's giving me some 6inch billet alloy bar to play with,so that would make some hubs for the wheel.
I hate going off track and thinking about the next project...But....
I had in my mind worked out some of the things needed for my next bike. An endurance styled FJ12. i had thought about a single projector headlight molded into the fairing, twin filler caps on the tank, decent tyres and suspension (busa front end with 6pots,Yam thunderace swingarm...)and as Ive mentioned before,a FBM blow thru turbo (when funds allow). I now fancy a low, long drag styled FJ... The split rim could be more at home on that bike?
Did I also mention I was thinking of making the FJ suzuki powered for a laugh too. I found a nice Vance & Hines drag exhaust for a gsxr11 in my parts dept today, but dont have anything to use it on?
Id like to just use some parts up before sheds around the area collapse under the strain of things!
Then of course Ive number 2 EFE.... Thats going to be a much more interesting affair if I pull my finger out and get things started.
Reading back,Im worried people think Im rich with a big budget. Most people I know have more a week than I do a month to exist on. Ive bought parts as and when Ive been able to afford them, hence the big parts dept!
When im not messing with other peoples rubbish,I have time. Time is very valuable,
Ive nearly got my back log of jobs finished for people too!!!
Happy days!
Ive also a wiring harness on the floor, next to the gsx.

Going to look well hard that
Interesting split rim. Any idea what the rim is off, or how the centre is bolted to it.
Is the centre in two haves, left and right or just bolted to one side?
If in two halves, might be worth unbolting them and having a look?
If I've just suggested something stupid, please feel free to take the p.

Ive got about 7 projects in my head
some of them more advanced than others. But as always cash is the main problem. Thats why ive invested in all the machinery, makes dreams become reality, there would be no way I could afford to pay someone to make whats in my head.
Still think that split rim looks so right in the efe.

lol,nothing stupid with questions.
The split rim has basically 3 sections. Its easier if you think of a car wheel for a moment. You have the outside lip section that youd see, youd have the centre section (the bit that bolts to the car)and then the rear inside rim lip section. The solid alloy plate in the centre of mine has been made with two alloy plates sandwiched together,to give thicker centre. The centre section is more or less 20mm thick (2 x10mm). With a sprocket side hub and a brake side hub machined and fitted the wheel will be plenty strong. I dont recall exactly what it came from, but it was a dragbike. The rim outer and inner are I believe Compomotive? Its a 7x17 in size. I think this is a good size without being stupid. Mind you,Ive bought a nice 8x18 wheel with a new 240 tyre for another bike, and a 10x18 with a 300 tyre for something, unknown yet!
I bought the wheel off the dreaded egay,as it had been badly listed and was in the wrong section (car stuff i think?). Im not saying how much, but it was less than ive spent on a night out! It was cheap!
This takes me back to what I was saying earlier about not being rich, and buying stuff when it came along at the right price.
I know this is a hideous fighter of non suzuki nature, but as an example, the wheel was from memory less than £4,the tyre a tenner, the swingarm extensions £20...

Thats a very good point. Save up and buy a good (old!)lathe and do stuff yourself.
If I had to pay,Id be riding around on a mk2 600cc Blandit.
Oh,I am..
I often havent got a clue as to what Im doing,I never plan jobs out,I dive in and make a start, but what fun it is. Its better than coronation street or eastenders, thats for sure!

Oh,and Nick,Ive about 14 projects scattered around the place! Hundreds in my head. I just know on my death bed,I'll think to myself,I wish id tried to build that one... I kind of regret wasting years with mates in the pub,and not really touching bikes for a bit. I also regret the last year or so,wasted on f***ing choppers!

Spurred on by gixxernicks build with the paint coming up,I think sometime this week i shall start a fresh paintjob for my bike(s),to show whats involved, right or wrong.
Im just about to start a paint job on a mates bike, but its not an aircooled suzuki....
I suppose for demonstration purpose's it surely wouldnt hurt to post some pics?
