Hi folks, since i built my stock Kat 8 yrs back its always been a twat to crank when hot. I put it down to the 1170 kit. Tried starter motors earth leads etc. I decided a couple of yrs back to fit efe starter motor and gears. So i managed to get hold of the parts and never did the job. Today its getting it.
One of the images is a efe starter one is kat. One has a cranking ratio of 1 turn of the start motor = 6.1 of the gear. The other has 1 turn starter motor = 7 turns of the gear. I will confirm which is which when i pull the Kat to bits.

Its a excellent upgrade/mod, i've had one fitted to my kat for years. It makes a big difference when you run a bigger displacement motor. I had a lot of trouble all those years ago, when I first went up 1170cc then to 1428cc, ... the standard kat set up just didn't cut it.. ;)

Would changing the gears only be helpful/useful ... or is the EFE starter itself required (along with the gears)?
Thanks!

Hi. You need the efe starter motor and the efe idler gear. The starter motor splines are different so far my Kat has been great

Do you also need to use the EFE starter clutch gear on the end of the crankshaft, or will the GSX1100 one be OK?
Thanks!

No......

Just use the intermediate gear that matches the starter you are using...............
