How to hints and tips
All, if you have an easy way of doing something this is where we can share it.
I will start with a couple of simple things, if you have an easier way, mention it. For the oil window, have the painted surface facing you and push away. I used two sockets, one that fitted tightly against the glass and a larger one at the back, set them in the vice and tightened, it don't take hardly any pressure to remove them. It's one of them jobs you need to do if your powder coating the cases like I am.

This section aint about teaching people to suck eggs, I'm definitely no expert.
some of you probably do rebuilds etc very regularly, some won't this is aimed at them I guess. This one is how to remove your barrels. I have seen barrels totally mashed to bits cos people rush it. Remember these barrels could of been sat in the same position for 20 + years, with salt, grime etc flying through the fins, most of the head studs are exposed to grim, salt, etc, it builds up a corroded sort of surface and glues the barrels to the studs. So I always remove the studs first, then the barrel comes of with a couple of taps. I just use two nuts screwed to each other, if you get a tight stud, go in and out several times and chill, then they may not snap. Good luck.

when removing carbs from a bike, disconnect the throttle cable at the handlebars and remove carbs complete with cable. Much easier than messing between the carbs/under the frame to disconnect the cable.

To remove the alternator cover without forcing a scewdriver inbetween the cover and the cases and damaging the mating surfaces use the lip underneath the cover instead to lift it off (or at least break the seal of the gasket).. Place a socket on the 17mm engine mounting bolt and use that as a pivot point along with a piece of hard wood (a stick or handle of same sort) to act as a lever.. Fill out any extra space on top of the socket to get the right lever angle..

This is a selfmade tool for tinkering on clutches. Just an old steel plate welded to a grip.

Alt covers for the Gsx1100s are different. The Kat one is different to the ET one. The locating ring for the alt is 34mm for the Kats and 36mm for Ets. Someone said in another section that kat ones fits ESDs.
