Arnout says hello..
well.. managed to log in at last after speedy intervention by FBJ (thanks again!)..
so first post on here ouch..! the red textarea is hurting my eyes ..and like many others formerly a long time member on OSS..
after hanging back for a while to see where this ACS-thing was heading, finally decided to (try to) register to be able to talk aircooled-suzuki again..
right.. enough about me, more about my bikes..
current ride (now parked warm and dry inside the house) my rebuild '85 1327 EFE..

while not riding atm working hard again on a new Katana-project..

hej arnout asher blief !!
nice to see you still have the rightous affliction-
1327cc-some very nice pistons available to suit this capacity.
welcome in
BBK

Welcome to ACS Arnout at last mate,
What good taste in bikes you have
I've often wondered what it would be like running a bike motor like that on the road. do you have cooling issues? starting issues?
That Kats looking good, did you do all the bracing yourself? I can't see properly are you staying twin shock?

thanks guys for welcoming me in on here..
MTC high compression (14:1?) pistons which I cut down a bit to reduce compression (12.5:1?)
it's all been somewhat of a gamble as it started off with a cheap ebay find of just the resleeved cylinder block, bored and honed ready to be fitted (but also a dodgy repair of a crack in the cast..) but without the right pistons.. all I knew was the block was suposedly bored to suit MTC ones..
months later I stumbled across a set of 80mm MTC pistons.. also very cheap..
to my luck (and relief!) they fitted the bores exactly..
had to do a number of rebuilds though because the base gasket kept leaking oil as the underside of the block wasn't really flat because of the crack..
it starts well (fitted a AGM type battery) but the starter clutch does have a hard time (rebuild it twice now).. but at least it doesn't kick back thanks to the reduced ignition advance of the dyna2000 at idle rpm..
I do have cooling issues though.. it is a stock block (no "big block") so air can still flow through it to help cooling, but you do need to keep the bike moving in warm weather or else it heats up fast.. to help generate air flow to the big oilcooler at low speeds or when stuck in traffic, I recently fitted a fan on top of the cooler.. this does seem to stretch the heat up time to an acceptable level..
yup.. the frame is originally off an GSX750ET (my first bike btw!) on which I welded in most of the bracing many years ago.. meanwhile built and rode another bike (Katana 1260) but sadly I lost it (stolen).. being the webmaster on the dutch KatanaClub site I couldn't put off not owning a Kat much longer, so decided to transform the old 750ET into a Kat.. (kept most of the old bodywork lugs so it can be swapped back to ET-style if I want to..)
anyway.. yeah, twin shocks of course!
but I moved the mounting points on the frame so the shocks will lay flatter.. this is mainly done to increase the suspension travel which is very short compared to monoshock setups..
other changes include: narrowed down LH frame tubes on inside to gain chain clearence, moved swingarm pivot to avoid chain dragging on swingarm, increased pivot bolt to 20mm and sunk both ends "flush" into the frame tubes, put in V-shape brace between front downtubes made from oval section tube to keep clear of the headers, extra engine mount a la EFE above sprocket, extra set of front engine mounting brackets angled inwards, moved side stand spring to inside, swept up rear bit of subframe or it would poke out below a Kat seat and tail, new tail cross "tube" to suit ET seat lock.. errr.. well, that's about it..
