Hello John, Checking the strainer on these old girls is a must, I remember when I rebuilt Flos Kat the oil light kept flicking, did my nut in, found a break in the clock wiring thought i'd fixed it, turned out to be the strainer. I guess its down to stretching the oil change periods throughout the bikes life. Bet you never chance it again, I know I won't.
Bet your gagging to get it back on the road, must be a pleasure working in it with your new bike lift and heated shed.
