Im needing help to suggest what size cooler I need on my upcoming 1127cc oil cooled into EFE bike?
No way will I use the pig ugly standard gsxr cooler! I fancy something that wont draw the eye too much to it,any suggestion's please? Also,with the turbo,do you think I need a head cooler plumbed in too?

Years ago I spotted a really nicely modded (3 spokes etc)Mk2 z1000 parked up. It wasnt until I walked away from it that I realised it had a suzi oil cooled engine in it. The owner had fitted the cooler between the frame,where the air box used to live (just behind his K&N's),and it was really cool. I think id struggle to hide the cooler with a turbo to oil as well,which is a pity.

I dont know what to say really. Im a applications engineer and test installed engines to approve them for warranty. But they already have oil coolers and CAC etc. I test them to manufactureres limits. Sizing them no idea. The way i see it something is better than nothing. i will go as big as i can with out it being fuggly. As for turbo oil feed. I think deanotec said 0.9 id. What oil pressure does the gsxr run at? There will be somekind of restrictor somewhere in the oil circuit. If you can find out the id of that you could just make sure everything else is bigger when you do a return try to direct it so it dont airate to much. Are you fitting a larger sump? That will help a little with oil cooling. The Gsxr oil cooler is huge. Measure the capacity of yours. Then you will need that as a min. You can get bigger by going fatter. Coolers are measured by number of rows, tubs and fpi (fins per inch). Good luck bud. Will list what im gonna do with mine

Thanks FBJ. What you say makes a lot of sense,make it bigger than the orifginal capacity. Its just the fuggly issues I dont like the sound of.
I mailed FBM last night in regard to oil lines etc and Im awaiting a reply.
I mailed Mr Turbo today too,to order a new boost gauge,and Im also waiting for a reply about that.
Before Saturday (Rufforth,York autojumble),Im going to make a list of all the nuts and bolts I need,along with anything else i can think of to get things moving properly.
Im doing this build on a very very very small budget,and luckily have (i think?)99% of the parts needed to finish it. I think the whole build should come in at somewhere about the £1500-1600 area. Good value for a big muscle bike!
The break down of cost's so far.
Turbo kit from FBM £1000
S/H frame (i think?) £60
powdercoating £50
Tank and panels from FBK (ages ago) £50
Donor GSXR11 £550.
Ive been offered more than the cost of the donor for the JMC arm and USD front end.
So that means the engine,leccy's etc free.
Paint materials I'll round up to £50
I could do with a new longer chain £???
A big oil cooler (I'll buy from a car place,not a rip off bike place!) £50-70?
Boost gauge from Mr Turbo $53.00 (£30-ish?).
Oil lines £???
Its not too bad when you weigh it up?
Things like wheels,brakes tyres forks etc...have all come from different projects or bikes Ive owned for years.
Im liking this more and more!

I havent a pic handy at the moment,but if anybody can look at Steve Burns GSX (site logo bike),it looks like his top lock up strut is fastened at the bolt hole where the grab rail bolts to the frame? Ive welded in box section behind the rear of the sidepanel on my frame,but now think the angle of my struts will be too steep?
Does anybody think the grab rail mount would be strong enough to take the loads of lock up struts?

A 16 row full length unit will be ok for a non turbo bike, probably 18/20 row for a turbo gsxr motor.. but a 16 row may do the job ok, look at GSXR pics that are fitted with turbo's out there, it will point you roughly in the right direction. Earls, Serck, mocal, all these are decent makes & will do as the main oil cooler.. Have a look on the Earls site they are listed on there.
My 1428cc turbo Kat has a 13 row full length cooler, it works fine, but the Kat has a deep sump on also, & holds about 4000ml of oil, over the standard 3200ml amount.
Dont know about the head cooler kit, but i think a 10 row should suffice.

Im going to have a look at some oil coolers on line,to see if I can find one I like? I may have a word with a cooler manufacturer to ask if they can make me a small but thick one? Its times like this I wish I had a fairing! (thats a complete lie by the way!).
