Started a new project, utilising a common garden variety GSX750 Katana



750 has been stripped (although it did prove a task as lots of stuff seized, ehaust had to be cut off due to headers stuck in the head!!)

Anyway stripped:


Engine in (with a few little mods to get it there!) not in properly yet but gives me more of an idea of whats needed now


And also looks like bodywork will go on without too much hassle


Put the original stock front and rear ends back in so I can move it from cave number 2 to cave number 1 to start work properly looking as though it is gonna be a good project though even if I do say so myself

This will be a great project to watch, I think your going to face some awesome challenges with this one, I mentioned this project to someone I know the other day, he said why? why bother, I thought if you have to ask you don't under stand.
What have you got to over come Steve? will you be able to cut a little out for the chain run? I suppose if your going blow thru you don't need to worry about the exhaust.

One of the reasons for doing it (tell your friend lol) is because I love the look of the old kat but want modern performance, reliability, power and brakes

Problems to overcome include, either widening bottom frame rails or removing them completely and making rails to go round the side (ala Harris style??) making suitable mounts to lower and move the engine forward slightly, mounyting points for electrics and huge cdi etc, fuel tank sorting to give a good feed to an external mounted fuel pump etc etc etc lots and lots to do

P.s. and yes will be natching out and strngthening the frame to accept the wider chain line (did this before on the GSX1400 turbo I built before when I added a 240 rear wheel )

Tried the throttle bodies in place yesterday to make sure all fits and to see what room I have for a plenum chamber, also managed to locate some GSX14 switchgear for the project too

Gonna stick with stock looking rails, just sorting out ordering the bends and straights I need to achieve this and the slugs and connectors to make one of the rails detachable

That sound interesting, do you have any plans to ensure the head stock stays square, Strangeways put mine in his jig before he removed and replaced my lower rails

Going to put a few brace bars around the headstock etc to hold it square, already took a section out of the frame rail on one side and no flex noticed so going to do one side at a time but when all the frame is done and welded up I will be having it checked in a friends jig just to make sure it's as true as it can be and cutting/welding hasn't distorted things too much
