7/14 katana project .....
Re: 7/14 katana project .....
That removalble rail is a work of genious. Your proving a lot of folk wrong. Many said it couldnt be done. Reckon this could be seen a lot more. I like the idea of this rather than a 14 with kat body work

Left rail had to be remade and set lower and slightly wider to allow engine to drop and move over slightly aswell as match the other frame rail for shape and height etc.

That makes sense . . . to gain more space between the frame rails for that very wide oil pan/sump.
Did you cut out a section of the lower frame rail on the left hand side - being able to make the curved/wided shape - and welded it back in again ?
Or did you work on it "in situ" ?
Do you by any chance have any piccies of the process
Sorry for all these "nasty" questions - but I'm going to gather as much info as I can - before starting a similar project of my own

sweet looking build-like how you approached the frame rail mods to allow the motor to sit right-it looks well in there-i have a 250 katana frame or two here and the factory have done same method exactly as your stepped lugs-so it,s a factory aircooled suzuki-
dont listen to the haters-most have never built anything more than a case of haemorroids!
i just dont see how you can go wrong-a katana-the absoloute pornstar of the aircooled world
having a steamy session with the 14-which is a good looking engine-i,ve seen a few gsx1400,s that have been big horsepowered-no idea if they stayed together-i had the remains of a turbocharged one with a spondon swingarm and lots of goodies on it-it was fire damaged-
good luck with fattening up this kat-
keep us picture hungry mongs well fed------

I started by mounting the motor in by removing some of the r/h side rail first, then chopped some of the l/h rail to get the motor centred, bolted it in and cut off the rest of the rail, had 2 new rails made and cut them to fit .......

Did a bit more today, got the lower engine mounts done and the sidestand re-welded to the new lower rails.

Engine nearly fully solidly mounted
