Re: 7/14 katana project .....
It started life as air cooled. Good enough for me

John, the 1400 isn't water cooled
No it would not be ok to fit anything other than Suzuki engines, and not water cooled
Rather than take over Steves thread with this debate, PM me or start a new thread in general. cheers mate.

if a site is set up as having only 2 requirements, aircooled and suzuki, and then someone starts posting about their watercooled project, then where do you draw the line? as nice as the bike in question is, and i can see its gonna be a stunner, it isnt aircooled.
John the katana is an air cooled bike, yes I agree but so in effect is the GSX1400 which is just an evolution of the species as far as I'm concerened, yes it has an oil cooler fitted but the engine is air cooled and not water cooled, how many people out there have fitted either oil coolers or upgraded to EFE or GSXr motors in there Kats?? I agree fitting a Kwak engine is wrong but all I'm trying to do is evolve my own bike to be a little more modern and reliable with a bit of extra punch, if you deem it not worthy for these pages then fine but I cannot see the difference between someone banging in an EFE motor compared to me banging in a GSX14 motor?? both motors hold an oil cooler as a stock item and from memory I think some of the late 11 kats had a small cooler fitted.
You decide, I just thought it would be interesting to view and feel what a modern day kat would be like

yes, with additional oil cooling.
According to Suzuki anyway and they should know.

I give up, if you want to be really pedantic about it that would mean efe's would be excluded from her too, in
essence All engines are cooled by the oil they run in otherwise, friction would take over and they would over heat

Yes...the show must go on... keep the project going, its good to see something a little different.. i understand the pro's & cons on both sides of the aircooled debate.. but its only evolution. The oil cooled motors still have fins on the motors, to help to lose heat & aid cooling,.. so in my eyes they are 'semi air cooled'... At the end of the day, as stated.. it isnt watercooled.
I had to widen my frame 60mm across the swingingarm pivot points, to acomadate a 8.5" rim / 240 rear tyre, modifying the standard frame tubes will not work...
Good luck with the project..Deanotek

Great thread..............keep the pics coming!
No water in the engine............and its got loadsa fins on the engine , so its got to be air cooled!

Thanks for the comments guys
Little update, got the bends I need and replacement rails, also got an angle meter and a tube notcher to help with making the bracing.

And had a pair of these made to make one side rail removable to make engine fitting/removal easier

Cheers
